Tool Calling Support - Help Shape v1.2!

Tool calling is the #1 requested feature for OpenClaw integration. It's on the roadmap for v1.2 (~2 months).

What is Tool Calling?

Tool calling (also called function calling) lets Claude use tools/functions you define.

Why It Matters for OpenClaw

OpenClaw's skills are built on tool calling:

• Without tool calling: Claude can only chat
• With tool calling: Claude can control your smart home, manage files, run commands, etc.

What We're Planning

v1.2 Milestone goals:

1. Parse tool definitions from OpenAI format
2. Detect when Claude wants to call a tool (from web UI)
3. Submit tool results back to Claude
4. Multi-turn tool calling conversations

Technical challenges:

• Claude's web UI doesn't expose tool calls directly (unlike API)
• Need to detect tool call intent from Claude's response text
• Need to inject tool results back into the conversation

1. Which OpenClaw skills do you want to use with Claude?
   (e.g., home automation, file management, web search, calendar)

2. What's your use case?
   (e.g., "I want Claude to control my Philips Hue lights through OpenClaw")

3. How critical is tool calling for you?

   • Blocker (can't use OpenAdapter without it)
   • Nice to have (I can wait)
   • Not needed (basic chat is enough)

4. Would you beta test tool calling?
   We'll need testers when the feature is ready!
