Utilizing a handheld bar-code scanner (via USB)

With the cost of handheld laser bar-code scanners being so inexpensive these days (I picked up one from aliexpress for around $14 US), is there any documentation or guides on how to utilize one of these for scanning in Digikey or other QR codes to add parts?

The built in camera capabilities to scan/parse and add data from a smartphone works well, but sometimes has issues reading, Where my handheld device is instantaneous and never has issues.

This handheld laser scanner returns the same data as the the built in scanner on the smartphone but it looks like the smartphone scanner knows how to parse the fields in the QR code...

When its just an HID compatible scanner which outputs keyboard strokes, you can just use it to type in barcode contents, into the scan content field.
If you configure the scanner go output a special char at the beginning, Part-DB can even automatically redirect and scan from everywhere directly:

I contacted tech support for the hand held scanner I have (Netum) and they pointed out that there are a couple of configs that have to be set to be able to output the RS, GS and EOT binary characters when in 'keyboard' mode. Once I set these, I am now able to scan the Digikey QR codes directly into the 'PartDB' -> Scanner -> Input text box... Works great....
