What are flavors?

Absolutely nowhere does it mention what flavors mean and their difference. Do I download foss or github flavor? They sound the same to me.

The two builds share the same downloader; the main difference is app updating. github is the default flavor in app/build.gradle, and the code enables update notifications and the updater UI only when BuildConfig.FLAVOR == "github" (worker, UI). If you install releases directly from GitHub, choose github. Choose foss when installing through an F-Droid-style repository and let that repository handle updates.

Also to add github flavour includes the permission to install apks
So installing helper packages in the settings is seamless but in fdroid and izzy flavours, they don't want that permission so you have to manually install the apk from the YTDLnis folder in Download
