Bug description

I am experiencing several reproducible input/interaction problems when using Cinnamon under Wayland. The same workflows work correctly when using Cinnamon under X11.

  1. QEMU/KVM virtual machine – Shift + number symbols

In a QEMU/KVM virtual machine using virt-manager, Shift-number combinations are not transmitted correctly.

For example, with the German keyboard layout:

Shift+1 should produce !, but produces 1.

The same happens with ", §, $, % and the other Shift-number characters.

However:

Shift + letters works correctly and produces uppercase letters.
AltGr combinations work correctly.
The keyboard works correctly in local Cinnamon applications.
I tested German, English UK and English US layouts; changing the layout did not solve the problem.

Important correction: These Shift-number characters DO work correctly through TeamViewer. The Shift-number problem appears specifically in the QEMU/KVM VM.

  1. TeamViewer – Ctrl/Shift selection

TeamViewer has a different problem under Cinnamon Wayland.

When remotely managing files, I cannot reliably use Shift to select a range of files or Ctrl to select multiple individual files. I have to work on the files individually.

This works correctly when the host is running Cinnamon X11.

  1. TeamViewer – clipboard/copy and paste

Copy/paste through TeamViewer is also unreliable under Cinnamon Wayland. The same TeamViewer workflows work correctly when the Cinnamon host uses X11.

I also tested RustDesk previously and observed similar limitations, which makes me suspect an interaction with the Cinnamon Wayland input/clipboard implementation rather than TeamViewer alone.

Steps to reproduce

Please see above.

Expected behavior

Keyboard modifiers, multi-selection and clipboard operations should behave the same under Cinnamon Wayland as they do under Cinnamon X11.

Additional information

Local keyboard input under Cinnamon Wayland works correctly. The problems appear when input has to be passed to a VM or remote-control application.

I have used the same machine under X11 without these problems.

I am happy to provide logs or perform additional tests if required.
