A friend has suggested a unique trending page.
This would feature a list of streams that have been listened the most.
Example :

Trending (24Hrs)

1. abcv 99 hits
2. sjsj 66 hits
3. gghu 50 hits
   ... and so on

How?

• The client would send the id being listened to the backend with a post request.
• The backend trending endpoint will return the chart data. { id , hits }
• Data older than 24hours will be cleared, keeping a relatively small database.
• This would be a opt-out feature which would disable the trending tab and all api requests.

This is a cool idea. It could also be implemented region wise, like using the user's country code (likely via IP) to display trending streams in their area. However, since this feature relies solely on ytify infrastructure, If the number of users aren't as much high, this might not perform as expected, especially with the database resetting every 24 hours.

Why not retrieve this data directly from YouTube or Spotify? What challenges are we facing in this approach?

Sorry, I don't plan to integrate the ytmusic home feed. But if anyone is willing to do so they can open up a pr anytime.
