Wall mode: show the whole day's meals, not just the next one
#2185
We have a frame on the kitchen wall, paired as a wall tablet. The question it gets asked most is "what are we eating today?", meaning the whole day: what's for lunch, is dinner the chili, who's cooking.
Today the wall answers with one meal. In the morning it shows breakfast ("Fage, fruit, granola · Breakfast" in the screenshot). Lunch and dinner are planned but don't appear until later in the day.
A paired display has no other way to see them. Since #1903 the wall gets today's meals, but the Meals module stays closed to displays (as it should), and the display's Overview has no meals tile. So the full day's plan can't be seen on the one screen in the kitchen.
What happens now
From the 2.79.0 source:
selectTodayMeal() (public/pages/dashboard.js:1267) picks one meal by the hour: breakfast before 12:00, lunch before 18:00, dinner after, falling forward to the next planned slot.
That meal is one row of "Today at a glance", which stops at four rows (WALL_ROW_CAP).
I understand the four-row cap is deliberate: the wall is read from two metres in passing, not worked through like a list. This idea tries to stay inside that.
Possible shape
Not a decision, just to make the idea concrete:
A "Meals today" section in the right column, under Weather: one short line per planned slot, e.g. "Breakfast · Fage, fruit, granola", "Dinner · Chili", with the cook's avatar as the wall already shows it. Slots with nothing planned are left out. On our frame that column has plenty of free space.
Or keep the meal in the program, but when more slots are planned, say so: "Lunch · Pasta salad, then Dinner · Chili", or "+2 more meals today".
Past slots could fade or drop off, as finished calendar events already do.
The screenshot shows how much room the wall has on a quiet day: three rows, and the bottom third of the screen is empty. (The footer sitting mid-screen there is a separate bug on old WebViews, filed as #2183.)

Wall mode on the kitchen frame, showing only breakfast:
The same display's Overview: no meals tile, and no Meals page in the display's navigation:
Setup
Yuvomi 2.79.0, Docker Compose via Coolify. The frame is a Pastigio FRAME156 (Android 8.1, WebView 106), paired as a wall tablet.
