Make sure you have installed the requirements if you are on Windows or Linux.

Quick Start

For a packaged app, download the archive for your platform from the latest release. See the installation guide for setup help.

To run from source, download or clone this repository and open a terminal in its folder.

1. Install the device connection tools listed in Requirements.
2. Create and activate a virtual environment:

python -m venv .venv
# Windows PowerShell
.\.venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1
# macOS/Linux
source .venv/bin/activate

3. Install the pinned dependencies and start GoldenNugget:

python -m pip install -r requirements.txt
python main_app.py

Make a full device backup before applying tweaks. Use python main_app.py --test-mode to open the interface with mock devices and no iPhone connected.

Compatibility

Make your own templates

Batter Builder is a visual editor for .batter templates with community tweaks: switches, sliders, text boxes and choice lists, no JSON by hand. It checks the template with GoldenNugget's rules, previews it on a virtual iPhone and submits it to the community catalog.

Requirements:

Windows

• Either the Apple Devices (from Microsoft Store) App or iTunes (from Apple website)

Linux

• usbmuxd
• libimobiledevice

If they are missing, GoldenNugget offers to install them (Arch, Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, Alpine and Void families); the system asks for your administrator password through polkit, so the app never sees it.

Building

Follow Quick Start to install the dependencies first. The generated src/qt/mainwindow_ui.py is committed; no Designer UI generation step is required for the current interface.

When changing Qt resources, regenerate the resource module:

pyside6-rcc --compress-algo zlib src/qt/resources.qrc -o src/qt/resources_rc.py

Translations live in the gNugget-i18n repository and are synced into src/qt/translations/ automatically, so do not edit the Nugget_*.ts files here. See I18N_SETUP.md for the sync, the local Russian catalog and the pitfalls of regenerating catalogs with pyside6-lupdate.

Build the application for your current platform:

python compile.py

Build output is written to dist/.

The macOS CI build downloads Qt/PySide6 6.12.0 Universal2 wheels for Python 3.15 from QTBuildMacOS. Qt compilation, wheel normalization, and shared releases are maintained there; this repository builds the application using the published wheels. The current runtime requires macOS 14.4 or newer. See the shared repository for local Qt build instructions and reuse in other GoldenNugget-Team projects.
