Offline repair package for the ELAN1203 / ASUS Precision Touchpad issue on the ASUS TUF Gaming F17 FX706HM.
Some ASUS TUF Gaming F17 FX706HM laptops lose the internal touchpad after a Windows reinstall, driver cleanup, BIOS update, or Windows Update cycle. Device Manager usually shows the touchpad as an I2C HID Device with Code 51:
I2C HID Device
Device instance path: ACPI\ELAN1203\...
Problem code: CM_PROB_WAITING_ON_DEPENDENCY / Code 51
This repository contains a small repair script and the required ASUS Precision Touchpad driver files, so the fix can be applied without relying on Windows Update or the ASUS support site being available.
The script applies the same repair steps that fixed the issue on an FX706HM system:
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Re-enables the touchpad in ASUS registry keys used by Armoury Crate / ASUS hotkeys |
| 2 | Dynamically finds ACPI\ELAN1203 devices and disables problematic ELAN power-management flags that can keep the device stuck in D3Cold |
| 3 | Installs the local ASUS Precision Touchpad driver using pnputil |
| 4 | Restarts the parent Intel Serial IO I2C controller so Windows enumerates the touchpad again |
After the fix, Device Manager should show ASUS Precision Touchpad and the internal pointer device should work again.

The driver folder contains the ASUS-signed Precision Touchpad driver package. The repair script verifies the bundled file hashes and driver catalog signature before installing it locally. See DRIVER-PROVENANCE.md for hashes and source notes.
- Download or clone this repository.
- Keep the folder structure intact. The
driverfolder must stay next tofix-trackpad.ps1. - Run

- Expand
Human Interface Devices. - Right-click the broken
I2C HID Device. - Choose
Update driver. - Choose
Browse my computer for drivers. - Choose

driverfolder. - Select
AsusPTPFilter.inf. - Install the driver and restart Windows.
Before the repair:
| Device | Expected State |
|---|---|
I2C HID Device / ACPI\ELAN1203 |
Code 51 / not working |
ASUS Precision Touchpad |
Missing |
| Internal touchpad | No pointer movement |
After the repair:
| Device | Expected State |
|---|---|
I2C HID Device / ACPI\ELAN1203 |
Working |
ASUS Precision Touchpad / HID\ELAN1203&COL02 |
Working |
HID-compliant mouse / HID\ELAN1203&COL01 |
Working |
| Internal touchpad | Pointer and gestures available |
The ELAN1203 touchpad stack needs two layers:
| Layer | Driver | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| I2C bus layer | hidi2c.sys |
Microsoft inbox driver for I2C HID communication |
| Precision touchpad layer | AsusPTPFilter.sys |
ASUS driver that exposes the device as a Precision Touchpad |
When only the Microsoft I2C HID layer is present, Windows can see the ACPI device but cannot complete the full touchpad stack. That is why the device often remains stuck with CM_PROB_WAITING_ON_DEPENDENCY.
Installing the ASUS Precision Touchpad driver restores the missing filter layer and lets Windows create the proper ASUS Precision Touchpad device.
| Problem | What to Try |
|---|---|
| Script says driver files are missing | Make sure the driver folder is still next to fix-trackpad.ps1 |
| Script says hash mismatch | Do not run the modified package. Re-download from a trusted source or use the ASUS/Microsoft driver manually |
| Driver catalog signature is not valid | Do not install the bundled driver; use ASUS Support or Microsoft Update Catalog instead |
| Access denied | Start fix-trackpad.bat again and accept the UAC prompt |
| Touchpad still does not move | Press the ASUS touchpad hotkey, usually Fn + F9 or Fn + F6 depending on the keyboard layout |
| Code 51 remains | Restart Windows, then run the script again |
| Driver installs but gestures are missing | Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad and check the Windows touchpad settings |
| No touchpad in BIOS/UEFI either | Check BIOS settings or consider a hardware/connector issue |

The bundled driver files are ASUS-signed files taken from a working Windows installation after installing the ASUS Precision Touchpad package. They are included here so the repair can be done offline. If your environment does not allow redistributed driver files, use the official ASUS or Microsoft Update Catalog route described in DRIVER-PROVENANCE.md.
