A World of Warcraft 3.3.5a (Wrath of the Lich King) addon that automatically invites players who whisper you a keyword.
Built for Project Ebonhold, whose difficulty modes and bracketed whisper tags it understands, though nothing in it is specific to that server beyond those two touches.
Someone whispers you inv, and they get an invite. That's the whole idea, but around
it EbonInvite handles the things that make keyword inviting annoying in practice:
converting a full party to a raid so the invite can land, setting the loot method when
the group forms, replying to people whose dungeon difficulty blocks the invite, and
keeping separate settings for each kind of group you run.
- Keyword invites. Whisper any configured keyword and get invited. Matching is
whole-word and case-insensitive, so
invmatches "inv please" but not "invalid". Defaults areinvandinvite. - Auto-convert to raid. When your party is full and someone whispers a keyword, the party is converted to a raid so the invite goes through.
- Loot method management. Optionally set a loot method automatically whenever you form a group or become leader.
- Difficulty mismatch replies. When the server refuses an invite because you and the other player are on different dungeon difficulties, EbonInvite whispers them a message you can customize, telling them what to switch to.
- Profiles. Keep separate keyword lists and settings for, say, heroics versus raids, and switch between them from the options panel or a slash command.
- Minimap button. Left-click opens the options, right-click toggles the addon on and off, and it can be dragged around the minimap or hidden entirely.
Invites are only sent when you actually have permission to invite: solo, as party leader, or as raid leader or assistant. Whispers are ignored otherwise, so the addon stays quiet when you are a regular member of someone else's group.
- Download EbonInvite.zip from the latest release. That link always points at the newest version.
- Extract it into
World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns/, so that the pathInterface/AddOns/EbonInvite/EbonInvite.tocexists. The archive already contains a correctly namedEbonInvitefolder, so there is nothing to rename. - Restart the game.
If you grab the source instead, with Code → Download ZIP or a clone, the folder will be
named something like EbonInvite-main and you have to rename it to EbonInvite,
because the folder name has to match the .toc file name.
Open the options with /ei, or by left-clicking the minimap button. Every control in
the panel applies immediately; there is no okay or apply button.

Keywords. Add or remove the words that trigger an invite. Server-added prefixes in
brackets are stripped before matching, so a keyword still matches when Ebonhold tags a
whisper with the sender's difficulty, as in [HC II] inv.
Auto-convert to raid when the party is full. Only fires when you are the party leader with four other members and someone whispers a keyword.
Automatically set loot method when forming a group. Choose from Free For All, Round Robin, Group Loot, Need Before Greed, or Master Loot. Master Loot assigns you as the master looter. The change is applied a moment after you become leader rather than instantly, because setting it too early can disconnect you.
Difficulty mismatch whisper message. Ebonhold refuses invites between players on different difficulty modes. When that happens the addon whispers the person this message so they know what to switch to. Two placeholders are available:
{player}: the name of the player who was refused{difficulty}: the difficulty you are currently on
Each line of the message is sent as a separate whisper, so you can write a short multi-line explanation. The default is:
Please change your difficulty to {difficulty} and whisper me again.
Only players who whispered you a keyword in the last five minutes get this reply, so the addon will not whisper strangers whose invites failed for unrelated reasons.
Profiles. Each profile carries its own enabled state, keywords, raid-conversion and
loot settings, and mismatch message. Creating a profile copies the settings of the
active one. The minimap button position and debug flag are account-wide rather than
per-profile. Settings are stored per account in EbonInviteDB.
