Thomas Aquinas — Aristotelian Logic Skill for Kiro

A Kiro agent skill that equips AI agents with the complete framework of classical Aristotelian-Thomistic categorical logic. The agent analyzes, validates, and transforms logical arguments using a rigorous, step-by-step execution routine — never from intuition alone.

What it does

  • Validates syllogisms against the 19 classical valid moods across all 4 figures
  • Detects equivocation before any structural analysis — catching semantic shifts, relative adjectives, and metaphorical uses of terms
  • Diagnoses fallacies precisely: Undistributed Middle, Illicit Major/Minor, Exclusive Premises, and more
  • Reduces syllogisms from Figures 2, 3, and 4 back to Figure 1 using the Consonant Decryption algorithm
  • Distinguishes logical validity from factual truth, and classical Thomistic logic from modern formal logic

Installation

As a workspace skill (project-specific)

Copy the .kiro directory into your project root:

cp -r .kiro /your/project/

Then reload the Kiro window (Cmd+Shift+P → Reload Window).

As a global skill (available in all projects)

cp -r .kiro/skills/aristotelian-logic ~/.kiro/skills/
cp .kiro/agents/thomas-aquinas.md ~/.kiro/agents/

Then reload the Kiro window.

Usage

  1. Open a new chat in Kiro
  2. Select Thomas Aquinas from the agent picker (bottom of the chat input)
  3. Present any argument, syllogism, or chain of reasoning — no special syntax needed

The agent loads the skill automatically and runs the full execution routine. You can also activate the skill manually in any agent by typing /aristotelian-logic.

Example

Premise 1: All humans are mortal.
Premise 2: All philosophers are humans.
Conclusion: Therefore, all philosophers are mortal.

The agent will identify this as Barbara (A-A-A, Figure 1) and confirm it as valid with full distribution tracking.

Testing

The tests/syllogism-engine-tests.md file contains 22 test cases across 5 groups:

Group Focus Count
A Equivocation Guard — Step 1 halts 5
B Valid syllogisms across all 4 figures 10
C Invalid syllogisms — fallacy diagnosis 8
D Reduction to Figure 1 3
E Edge cases and stress tests 4

Follow the instructions at the top of the test file to run them against a fresh agent session.

Requirements

  • Kiro IDE
  • A trusted workspace (Kiro Settings → Trusted Folders)

Background

Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) was the medieval scholastic philosopher who most thoroughly synthesized Aristotelian logic into a working intellectual system, bridging classical Greek philosophy with rigorous formal reasoning. This agent is named in his honor.

The skill is built on the Agent Skills open standard used by Kiro.
