I have a private image (if you need it for reconstruction of the error, please contact me privately) in .heic format which ImageGlass refuses to open with an error message if loaded via the gallery feature (the horizontal bar at the bottom listing the images in dir). However if the image gets loaded directly from the file explorer ImageGlass opens the image but overlays it with the error message. If the file would be corrupted than i assume it shouldn't load at all...

Open the image without any error or if the file is damaged tell that the file is damaged.

Hi, i've sent the image and some screenshots to you. I have no plugins or whatsoever installed. Is there any way to give you more detailed information on how the error occurs or fix it on my end if you are still unable to replicate?

I received and checked your image. This is an upstream issue with Magick.NET codec, because it does not recognize the image type from the header data. I will need to send them your image so that they can fix it if you are okay with this. You can also report this issue by yourselft at https://github.com/dlemstra/Magick.NET/issues

Alternatively, you can install the HEIC extension from MS Store, and download WIC ImageGlass plugin, open ImageGlass Settings > Plugins to install the WIC plugin you downloaded. After install, you can choose which image formats to open with the WIC plugin as the below screenshot

Thanks for looking into it. Sure thing, feel free to proceed, you know best what fails and who is responsible for it. However i assume ImageGlass needs some fixing too, as error messages overlayed over the loaded image creates some inconsistency in UX. Speaking of that, maybe you could include a report bug/error button beneath such error messages as well?
The "workaround" with the WIC plugin works perfectly, thanks. May i ask, why it is not included by default as it seems from the description itself to be superior in file format compatibility than vanilla ImageGlass?

There are serveral reasons

• ImageGlass has been using Magick.NET for many years, and the library is well maintained and works across platforms
• WIC is Windows-only codec, more like an experiment. If there is an issue, there is no place to report for a fix
