|---|---|---|
| English ground truth | The common short English rendering omits shearing, grief, knowledge, comparative suffering, and the sheep making off. | The controlled translation from the German supplies the complete aligned witness. |
| Constricted heart | The German gives both a bodily image and its emotional explanation. | Phi states the squeezed heart and intense sadness separately, during the act of seeing. |
| Three horses | Repeating `ta kalora` did not require three distinct horses, and separate matrix sentences detached their work from what the sheep saw. | `ta shao kalora` establishes an exact three-member group inside the seen proposition; `nu ta`, `nu wi`, and `nu ta shao` distinguish its members. |
| Load and bodily burden | Physical heaviness alone loses the living bearer. | `tumoa` describes the wagon's weight; base `tupeka` names the burden carried by a horse. |
| Shearing | Generic cutting did not identify removal of a fleece from its living bearer. | Shared Ecological and Work `mophiku` names shearing at both source occurrences and keeps the sheep as patient. |
| The master | Phi has no ordinary person-role for *master*, but translation cannot erase the source relation. | The title stays in English. Commons `phenori` identifies a person who holds ownership of the sheep inside the Phi sentence. |
| Speech boundaries | One frame for every quoted sentence falsely repeated the speaking event. | Each speaker receives one quote frame for the whole continuing speech. |
| The master | Phi has no ordinary person-role for *master*, but translation cannot erase the source relation. | The title stays in the source. One assertion identifies the person as holding Commons `phenori`, ownership, over the sheep; a second states what the person does with the wool. |
| Worse off | Phi has no generic *bad* or *worse*. | The comparison reverses: the horses are more `towe`, well, than the sheep. The limits table records the source's extra emphasis. |
| Final motion | Schleicher offers turned aside, escaped, and made off as descriptions of one departure. | Phi coordinates a turn towards the field with quick flight into it rather than making the sheep leave three times. |
| Final motion | Schleicher offers turned aside, escaped, and made off as descriptions of one departure. | Phi coordinates a turn towards a field with quick flight to `ra kosha`, that field, rather than making the sheep leave three times or leaving the destination implicit. |
| Source reconstruction | The horses' quotation and final parenthetical descriptions must remain complete. | The citation stream includes the closing quotation mark and reconstructs the stored witness exactly. |

The translation uses shared `mophiku` and Commons `phenori`. No other optional term makes the source more exact.

### Isolated process certification

D107 completes the D102 rerun. Four aligned units carry fourteen non-overlapping citations that reconstruct all 703 normalized source characters exactly. The source-only pass joins each speech into one frame, keeps the horses' work inside the proposition seen by the sheep, separates the ownership relation from the use of the wool, and gives the final field an explicit recalled referent. The first anonymous derivation then exposes an unresolved possibility that all three tasks belong to one horse. That unit's English is discarded, the Phi establishes an exact three-member group with ordinal members, and fresh source-blind contexts derive and audit only the repaired unit. The other three units retain their independently checked outputs under unchanged unit hashes. The final four-unit stream freezes at SHA-256 `dec1e02503f0c9571c4da870a80d67610508efce1d8aa65cbd44d6e9641c3fca`. No root, module membership, registered compound, function word, or grammar is added.

## Translation review: The Metta Sutta

The ground truth is V. Fausböll's 1881 translation stored at `texts/sources/sutta_nipata_fausboll.txt`. Every cited clause in verses 1 through 10 is represented, including the final claim about return to a mother's womb. The translation uses the full lexicon where the distinction fits: existing `thesani`, `naseru`, and `sharino` now stand beside `serathi`, `taleri`, and `wurashi`.

### mophira nela lo kalora — Schleicher's Fable

D107 certified this document in [PR #696](https://github.com/dcellison/phi/pull/696) on 2026-08-03. The freeze contains 4 aligned Phi units, and its `schleicher-en` citations reconstruct 703 normalized source characters exactly. The first anonymous derivation exposed ambiguous horse identity; that unit was repaired and derived again in fresh source-blind contexts while the other three retained their checked outputs under unchanged hashes.

## Maintaining the ledger

Run `python3 scripts/translation_process_status.py --write` after changing a status or adding a translation. Run `python3 scripts/translation_process_status.py --check` before publication. Changing certified Phi invalidates its English. CI will fail until the English has been derived again from a new anonymous packet and the new freeze has its own evidence.
