This change links the plugin to the FactIQ app registered in ChatGPT. With the link, ChatGPT can show the FactIQ Data Explorer in its sidebar and in a conversation's side panel. Codex setup does not change.

Why the explorer did not appear

ChatGPT shows an app's sidebar and side-panel entries only when the plugin names the registered app. Before this change, the plugin named only the server address, in .mcp.json. ChatGPT loaded FactIQ's tools from that address but did not connect the plugin to the app, so the Data Explorer had no sidebar entry.

The fix

The new .app.json file holds the ID of the published FactIQ app in ChatGPT. The share link of the app (chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_…) adds a plugin_ prefix; the manifest takes the ID without it, as in OpenAI's Notion plugin. The ChatGPT and Codex manifest refers to it with "apps": "./.app.json". This is the same layout as OpenAI's own Notion plugin. Codex still reads the server address from .mcp.json, so its setup is the same as before.

Before and after

Same steps in both cases: install FactIQ from this marketplace in the ChatGPT desktop app, then start a new chat.

Before: The sidebar has no FactIQ entry. FactIQ works only through the tools ChatGPT calls during a chat.

// .codex-plugin/plugin.json (excerpt)
"skills": "./skills/",
"mcpServers": "./.mcp.json",

After: The sidebar shows "Data Explorer", which opens FactIQ's explorer fullscreen. A conversation's side panel can open the same explorer.

// .codex-plugin/plugin.json (excerpt)
"skills": "./skills/",
"mcpServers": "./.mcp.json",
"apps": "./.app.json",
// .app.json
{
  "apps": {
    "factiq": {
      "id": "asdk_app_6a8fc5639bb88191a76a294a337dade2"
    }
  }
}

Details

  • The plugin version is now 0.41.0 in both manifests.
  • A new test checks that the manifest links .app.json and that the file holds one factiq app whose ID has the form asdk_app_ followed by 32 hexadecimal characters. All 79 tests pass.
  • The README lists the new file.
  • To test: update the marketplace in the ChatGPT desktop app, reinstall FactIQ and start a new chat. Plugin extensions in the web browser are not yet available on the Free and Go plans.

ChatGPT now knows which registered app belongs to this plugin, so it can
show the FactIQ Data Explorer in its sidebar and beside a conversation.

Before this change the plugin listed only the server address. ChatGPT
loaded the tools from it but not the app's sidebar or side-panel entries.
The new .app.json file holds the app's ChatGPT ID, and the ChatGPT and
Codex manifest points to it. Codex still reads the server address from
.mcp.json, so its setup does not change.

The plugin version is now 0.41.0. A new test checks the link and the ID
format.

The share link of a published plugin adds a plugin_ prefix to the app ID.
The manifest takes the app ID without it, as in OpenAI's Notion plugin.
