v9.3.0

⚠ BREAKING CHANGES
  • Upgrade Go version from 1.23 to 1.24 (#1137)
  • API: API methods and request fields that previously accepted a single string for resource identifiers (e.g., indices, names, IDs, routing, features) now require []string. Corresponding WithX helpers now accept variadic arguments (...string).
  • API: All ExpandWildcards request fields were changed from string to []string, and WithExpandWildcards helpers now accept variadic arguments (...string).
  • API: Routing parameters across document, search, and multi-document APIs were changed from string to []string, and related WithRouting helpers now accept variadic arguments (...string).
  • API: Duration-based parameters previously expressed as string now use time.Duration (e.g., KeepAlive, Interval, BucketSpan). Call sites must pass time.Duration values.
  • API: ML APIs using interface{} for start/end time parameters now require string values, removing support for arbitrary types.
  • API: Several top-level API methods now require []string instead of string for path parameters that support multiple resources (e.g., indices, templates, data streams, transforms, repositories, privileges).
  • API: MonitoringBulk was refactored: DocumentType support was removed, Interval is now time.Duration, and required parameters were added explicitly to the method signature.
  • API: Some WithX functional options changed between single-value and variadic forms to match API behaviour. Existing option usage may require updates.
  • API: Request struct fields were updated to reflect REST API semantics, including changes from string to []string and removal of deprecated fields. Direct struct initialization may require changes.

The bump of github.com/elastic/go-elasticsearch from v8 to v9 is a major change, requiring changes in Fleet Server code that calls into this module's APIs (done in b8dc5d2). So I'd like a second set of eyes on this PR. @macdewee would you mind?

TL;DR

Buildkite cloud E2E failed with exit status 1, but the provided log artifact only contains Terraform teardown output and omits the actual failing command/error. The immediate next step is to rerun the :gcloud: Cloud e2e Test job with full log capture so the root cause can be identified.

Remediation

  • Re-run Buildkite build 16266 (or just :gcloud: Cloud e2e Test) and preserve the full raw step log from command start through failure.
  • Capture the first non-zero command and stderr before teardown begins; that line is currently missing from /tmp/gh-aw/buildkite-logs/fleet-server-gcloud-cloud-e2e-test.txt.
  • After obtaining the full failing section, classify as code/test/dependency/infrastructure and apply the targeted fix.
Investigation details

Root Cause

Current evidence is insufficient to determine a code-level root cause. The only available artifact is a truncated tail log that starts during resource destruction and ends with Buildkite’s generic exit marker.

Evidence

Destroy complete! Resources: 1 destroyed.
^^^ +++
🚨 Error: The command exited with status 1
^^^ +++
user command error: exit status 1
  • No earlier stack trace, assertion failure, or command error is present in the provided artifact.

Verification

  • Reviewed Buildkite event/failure summaries and the full provided log file.
  • Checked open flaky-test issues in elastic/fleet-server for matching signatures (cloud e2e, terraform destroy); none found.

Follow-up

If rerun output still ends at teardown without the original failure, adjust log collection for this step to include full command output (or upload raw Buildkite log export as an artifact).
