Hantavirus: Discrepancies in Date of Symptom Onset #97

Description

@aimeehan1

The date of symptom onset for several cases in the Global.health hantavirus linelist varied across sources and was not reported with consistency. Curators review all publicly available data and add case information with discretion.

We utilized several non-governmental, but authoritative sources or reputable scientific literature for curation, including by not limited to:

NEJM article link
Eurosurveillance article link
WHO Disease Outbreak News (DON) 600 link
WHO Rapid Risk Assessment (RRA) link
When available, we aimed to use government sources for case data. However, several government sources did not explicitly identify dates of confirmation, so date of date of publication was used instead where applicable.

The following table compares the various dates of symptom onset for each confirmed case .

Data reconciliation is ongoing.

Example: Case 6. WHO's RRA provided a symptom onset date on May 1st, which we initially added to the G.h linelist. However WHO's DON 600 had previously described the date of onset as April 27. The DON also listed symptoms not provided in the RRA, leading curators to assume that other symptoms may have started earlier. Eurosurveillance also listed a date prior to May 1st, but did not align with 4/27. Date_symptom onset has been updated to April 27.
