Teslasynth
MIDI synthesizer firmware for ESP32
CI GitHub Tag GitHub License PyPI - License
PyPI - Python Version

Teslasynth is open-source MIDI synthesizer firmware for ESP32 family that turns interruptible high-voltage/high-power devices such as Tesla coils, flyback transformers, high-power lasers into musical instruments.

Full documentation: https://teslasynth.hnaderi.dev/

If you find Teslasynth useful, a GitHub star helps others discover the project.

⚠️ Safety

The firmware has no awareness of what it is connected to. Safe operation is the responsibility of the builder and operator.

Quick start

  1. Open the web installer in Chrome or Edge and flash your ESP32 board.
  2. Connect to the Wi-Fi network Teslasynth (default password: Wardenclyffe1891!).
  3. Open http://teslasynth.local (or http://192.168.4.1 if mDNS doesn't work on your device).
  4. Configure the device using the web dashboard.
  5. Connect a MIDI source and play.

⚠️ Before connecting high-voltage hardware

Please read the Configuration page carefully before any high-voltage tests.

Web tools

Open teslasynth.hnaderi.dev/tools in Chrome or Edge for a browser-based MIDI file player (with per-channel instrument overrides, track mute, tempo and transpose controls) and a serial console, both accessible side-by-side without installing anything.

Python library

pip install teslasynth

Render MIDI files offline, visualise pulse signals, and tune safety parameters before connecting any hardware. See the Python docs for details.

LLM Usage Policy

This is software built by a human, for humans. LLMs are used only where they are helpful, without offloading my thinking to them, unlike what's unfortunately the norm now , in the AI craze era.

Proofreading & Standardization

LLMs are used for proofreading documents and standardizing special symbols to specific Unicode characters. For example greek letters for units.

Code Review

LLMs may be used occasionally for code reviews, merely as a suggestion source, or to find possible issues.

Core Development

All other aspects of design, implementation, and maintenance are and will remain handled exclusively by human expertise. I will not bet my own safety or equipment on trusting a statistical word generator.
