Laggy animations while using Ryzen IGPU

As the title says. Animations are noticeably laggy when using my Radeon Vega 10 IGPU on a Ryzen 7 3750h. This issue does not occur when switching to my dedicated GTX 1650 TI.

I would like to use my IGPU instead of my DGPU while on the desktop in order to preserve battery life, but the laggy animations bother me.

If any additional system information is needed, please let me know how to provide that, since I am a relatively new Linux user.

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything I can do to help with this. It's a combination of the demands of the OpenGL code in each effect, the performance capabilities of the hardware and lastly, the efficiency of the video drivers.

I didn't write the OpenGL in the effects (nor am I capable of writing OpenGL code at the moment) so I can't look for optimization opportunists there, and I am not about to start looking at the code in the drivers.

I think your best bet would be to:

1. Try selecting effect(s) that are less complex and therefore require less GPU performance. (i.e Focus, Aura Glow, Glitch, Glide, etc)
2. Make sure you are using the best drivers for the integrated GPU.
3. If you are using UI scaling, maybe you can use a lower resolution instead as that would reduce the load on the GPU.

One thing I can do (and I am planning on doing it in the future when I can find the time) is to allow you select different effects when running on ac power vs battery. This way you could use lighter effects when on battery and more heavy weight effects when plugged in.
