  • Add mount/unmount on VirtualFileSystem plus a handler registry consulted by lib/fs.js, lib/internal/fs/promises.js, and lib/internal/fs/dir.js via vfsState.handlers.
  • Route absolute paths to the VFS that owns them, so the public fs.* and fs/promises APIs (sync, callback, promise, streams, fs.watch, opendir) dispatch to the mounted provider and fall through to the real filesystem otherwise.

vfs: dispatch fs/promises to mounted VFS instances

Add mount/unmount lifecycle on `VirtualFileSystem`, a handler registry
that fs.js and fs/promises.js consult via `vfsState.handlers`, and a
router that maps absolute paths to the VFS that owns them. When a VFS
is mounted, the public `fs.*` and `fs/promises` APIs (including
streams, `fs.watch`, and `opendir`) dispatch to the provider for paths

### Notable Changes

#### Temporal API

The Temporal API is now enabled by default in Node.js 26. Temporal is a modern date/time API for JavaScript

The V8 engine is updated to version 14.6.202.33, which is part of Chromium 134.

#### Experimental `node:ffi` module

Node.js now includes an experimental `node:ffi` module for loading dynamic
libraries and calling native symbols from JavaScript.

The API is gated behind the `--experimental-ffi` flag and, when the Permission
Model is enabled, requires `--allow-ffi`.

This API is inherently unsafe. Invalid pointers, incorrect signatures, or accessing memory
after it has been freed can crash the process or corrupt memory.

#### Potential changes to macOS Universal Binary availability

With Apple and its ecosystem progressively dropping support for Intel-based
architectures, it has become apparent that the Node.js project may not be able
to maintain the universal binaries we currently distribute for the full lifetime
