Summary

ezrules had only been set up on macOS. A full run on Ubuntu 26.04 (rootless Docker 29, uv 0.12, Node 22) showed the app itself works: demo, prod and dev paths, the agent-stack scripts, Celery backtesting, poe check. The manual had gaps. This PR changes docs only.

  • Linux prerequisites: Ubuntu's docker.io package has no docker compose. Install docker-compose-v2 or docker-compose-plugin, and optionally docker-buildx. Also covers the docker group, rootless Docker, and loginctl enable-linger.
  • Dev path order fix (all platforms): the old step 2 docker compose up -d started the worker and beat before init-db created the database. Both exited with database "ezrules" does not exist and stayed down. The docs now start postgres redis mailpit first and bring up worker beat after init-db. They also note that the compose EZRULES_APP_SECRET doesn't match the one in settings.env.
  • Appendix B: warns that apt PostgreSQL and Redis take ports 5432 and 6379 away from the compose services, and aligns the password with postgres:root.
  • Contributing: local Playwright browser setup, which only CI covered before. Includes the caveat that Playwright 1.58.2 refuses install-deps on Ubuntu 26.04. Also covers the agent stack and xdg-open.
  • Troubleshooting: missing compose plugin, ports already in use, worker/beat exiting before init-db, Angular ENOSPC watcher limit.

Test plan

  • uv run mkdocs build --strict
  • uv run poe check
  • CI checks

- Add Linux prerequisites: Compose plugin packages, optional buildx,
docker group, rootless Docker and loginctl enable-linger
- Path 3: start postgres/redis/mailpit first and worker/beat after
init-db; document the compose vs settings.env APP_SECRET mismatch
- Appendix B: warn about apt PostgreSQL/Redis port clashes and align
  the password with postgres:root
- Contributing: local Playwright browser setup (install-deps, Ubuntu
26.04 caveat) and the agent stack with xdg-open
- Troubleshooting: missing compose plugin, ports 5432/6379 in use,
worker/beat exiting before init-db, Angular ENOSPC

check-version fails when pyproject.toml carries an already-published
version. 1.29.3 is taken by the container dev-deps fix in #173, so use
1.29.4 to keep both PRs independently mergeable.

Address review feedback: install frontend deps before
start-agent-stack.sh (it refuses to start without node_modules), and
exclude the auth email-flow specs when running against the agent stack,
which starts the API with EZRULES_TESTING=true and therefore skips SMTP.

Homebrew's cluster only has the invoking macOS user as superuser, so
the documented postgres:root endpoint failed. Address review feedback by
creating the role with the expected password.
